A Light in the pathway of darkness

MISSION statement

Mother Emanuel AMEC is a light in the pathway of darkness. Our light shines by demonstrating the love of Jesus, the forgiveness displayed by Jesus, and the grace and mercy that God showed us.

The following scriptures are the foundation of our mission statement:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident. One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!” Psalm 27:1-4, 13-14

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matt 5:14-16

WHAT WE BELIEVE

The Mission of the AME Church is to minister to the social, spiritual and physical development of all people.

  • APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. The third day he arose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church Universal, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

  • OF FAITH IN THE HOLY TRINITY

There is but one living and true God, everlasting, without body or parts, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness; the Maker and Preserver of all things, both visible and invisible. And in unity of this God-head, there are three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

  • OF THE WORD, OR SON OF GOD, WHO WAS MADE VERY MAN

Of the Word, or Son of God, Who Was Made Very Man

The Son, who is the Word of the Father, the very and eternal God, of one substance with the Father, took man’s nature in the womb of the blessed Virgin; so that two whole and perfect natures, that is to say, the God-head and manhood, were joined together in one person, never to be divided; whereof is one Christ, very God and very Man, who truly suffered, was crucified, dead, and buried, to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice, not only for original guilt, but also for the actual sins of men.

  • OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

Christ did truly rise again from the dead, and took again his body with all things appertaining to the perfection of man’s nature, wherewith he ascended into heaven, and there sitteth until he returns to judge all men at the last day.

  • OF THE HOLY GHOST

The Holy Ghost, proceeding from the Father and the Son, is of one substance, majesty, and glory with the Father and the Son, very and eternal God.

  • OF THE SUFFICIENCY OF THE HOLY SCRIPTURES FOR SALVATION

The Holy Scriptures containeth all things necessary to salvation; so that whatever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation. In the name of the Holy Scriptures, we do understand those canonical books of the Old and New Testament, of whose authority was never any doubt in the Church.

THE THREE "H's"

2025-2026

Hope

Hope, as shown in Jeremiah 29:11, reminds us that God’s plans are always intentional, even when we cannot see the way forward. The Lord declares, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” This promise reassures us that our lives are not left to luck — they are in the hands of a faithful God who is working for our good. Even during times of waiting, uncertainty, or hardship, hope keeps us grounded in the truth that God’s intentions are full of love and promise. It encourages us to trust that He is guiding each step toward a future that reflects His grace, reminding us that what feels like delay may actually be divine preparation for a greater purpose.

Healing

Healing, as shown in Psalm 147:3, comes from God’s gentle heart, who “heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” This verse reminds us that no pain is too deep and no wound too hidden for God’s restoring touch. His healing isn’t limited to physical injuries; it reaches into places where grief, disappointment, and loss have left their scars. God meets us in our brokenness with compassion, not condemnation, and patiently mends what life has shattered. In His presence, our sorrow is met with comfort, and our weakness becomes the space where His strength is made perfect. True healing, then, isn’t just about recovery — it’s about renewal, a divine act that restores hope, peace, and wholeness to the soul.

Holiness

Holiness, as explained in 1 Peter 1:15–16, is a divine invitation to mirror the character of the God who has called us. It states, “just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.” Holiness isn’t about being perfect, but about dedication — living a life dedicated to God’s purposes. It involves allowing God’s Spirit to influence our thoughts, desires, and actions so they align with His will. In a world that often promotes compromise, holiness calls us to live with integrity, compassion, and purity of heart. It is the daily choice to let God’s love guide how we speak, serve, and respond. As we grow in holiness, we become living mirrors of His light, showing that the grace that saves us also changes us.
